With three kids and constant travel for work, John Hussey jumped at the chance to play an open-world adventure game like “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” anywhere, anytime.

After he heard about the Nintendo Switch, a hybrid game machine that works as both a console at home and a tablet on the go, Hussey ordered one in January even though it wouldn’t arrive until Friday, when Nintendo’s latest game machine debuts.

Nintendo Switch, the Japanese company’s newest console, arrives March 3 at $300 (about Rs. 20,500). That’s not the only thing we learned from the Tokyo event last week. The Switch is available for pre-order in two variants – with a pair of grey Joy-Cons, or one red and blue each. Nintendo also showed a bunch of games, including new Zelda and Mario titles.

The Nintendo Switch will also have its own online service à la PlayStation Plus, which apart from facilitating online multiplayer, will also provide titles from NES and SNES generation. A lot more information has trickled in since, via video demonstrations, interviews, and the official website.

LOS ANGELES – Nintendo answered skepticism about its Wii U game console Tuesday with high-powered games, hoping to tempt consumers with new titles featuring popular characters.

When released this holiday season, the Wii U will feature new games from the “Super Mario Bros.,” “Wii Fit” and “Pikmin” franchises. “Pikmin 3,” a long-awaited sequel to a strategy game involving the eponymous antlike creatures, drew appreciative oohs and ahs from the crowd at Nintendo’s Wii U event at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The company appeared to have taken to heart the lesson of its 3DS handheld console, which hit stores last year without accompanying games starring Nintendo’s popular cast of characters. Sales improved after the past holiday season, when gamers were drawn to new titles from the “Super Mario Bros.” and “Mario Kart” franchises.
