The best way of ejecting the CD/DVD drive on your Desktop computer or laptop is to use the Nircmd utility. You can go to http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html to download the utility which is in a zip file at the bottom of the page. (Note: you have to unzip the zip file in order to use the utility).
Please follow the steps below to create a shortcut icon to use the Nircmd utility to eject CD/DVD drive:
1. Right-click on an empty area of Windows Desktop.
2. Choose New –> Shortcut.
3. In the location box, type the full path to the nircmd.exe file that you downloaded, and append the “cdrom open” command to the end of it, adjusting the drive letter to match your disc drive (For example, if the nircmd.exe file is in C:\Users, you have to type “C:\Users\nircmd.exe” cdrom open X: in the location box. (Note: “X:” refers to your CD/DVD drive letter).
4. Click Next.
5. Name the shortcut, such as “Eject CD”, in the next screen.
6. Click Finish.
